I'm putting new Metzelers on the R-bike.
While the tires are off the wheels, I am going to have the wheels powdercoated black.
Will a good powdercoater strip the silver paint off the wheels? What method will they use to do the stripping?

Yes, they will. Most likley, they will mediablast followed by solvent with tack rags.

Be sure that the wheels can be powercoated. I have seen some pretty bad pictures from wheels that have cracked from powdercoating. The heat used in most processes makes the alloy very brittle. Usually they break at low speeds but I'd hate to see what happens at 100mph.
Make sure you trust who does the powder coating and that they are familar with doing motorcycle wheels(bearings might have to be pressed out and masked.)

I have heard that heat thing before, but they don't get it any hotter than your brakes get racing. I am in the works setting up powdercoating my extra Roadstars. It's called grit blast. I have a machine at work but our media is not coarse enough. They quoted me $80 prep work on all 4 rims so two motorcycle rims won't be much. They quoted me $30 a rim for they actual coating and $60 for clear coat on all 4 rims. They said the clear is needed for metalic colors.

They do not repair any problems. There are many levels of powder coating quality. I tried another place last Summer for quicker turnaround and it was a disaster. 80% of Airborns work is shipped in.

All I'm saying is it has to be done right. I've been shown wheels that have failed due to the process and it's not a pretty sight. You can break them apart with pliars.
