 S54 Bearing Failure/Replacement

I heard there was a recall service bulletin sent out November 04 that now included all 01 &02 S54 M Coupes for factory bearing replacements under warranty. Can anyone verify? I have an 01 M cpe with 12k on it.
Thanks for your help.

That would be news to us, but (so far as I know) it's only the S-54 installed in M3 Coupes/Cabriolets (4-seater models) that get the bearing recall action.

We're the original owners (as are several other members here) of our 01 M Rdstr, so a factory issued recall letter would have no trouble finding us. Haven't gotten one yet...

As far as I know we are not included in this. I complained to the service manager about the unfairness of this and that it would appear that BMW NA is ignoring one of their most hardcore M customer group by doing so. He met with the rep who comes in once a week to verify & approve warranty work. After looking into it from a technical point of view, I was told that S54 bearing-failure engine replacements, after a certain date of production, already included the update that this second S54 recall entails (the one that only applies to M3's). Furthermore, my engine replacement was one of the ones that already had this upgrade. My engine was replaced last August/July. So, if your engine is about to replaced now, you should be in good shape - if what they are telling is correct. They seemed to be telling me this information in earnest.

Your car is an exact copy of mine, What signs should I look for if the bearings start to fail?
Since there is no oil pressure gage will it use oil more rapidly or emit blue exhaust, make noises? How can I check to see if mine might be one of the BAD engines?
Thanks for your input.

You will definitely know right away if your bearings are gone. The engine will make a LOUD sound of grinding metal, and will start to lose almost all power. I managed to drive mine home a distance of 15 miles without a problem. Any other questions, please ask

You will most definitely know. It usually starts with noises from the engine especially in the low rpm range (2500 rpm) and then the block will self ventilate. That will be pretty obvious
