So this is the 3.73 diff year. I first need to buy a unit then I will send it away for a rebuild. So my question is about what kind of prices should I expect to pay for this 3.73 LSD (from an E30), and sources to get it from would be appreciated.

Florian | As mentioned, I would go with the BMW TORSEN style 3.46 differential if using stock diameter tires. It's right on the edge of being aggravating on my car. Perfect for the way you drive the car. Look at the third gear numbers.
Approaching 98 MPH at red line and you get the Torsen style which hooks up better based on my experiences.

Why not save yourself some time, buy a rebuilt diff, and then ship your core.

Ron, I didn't know BMW had Torsen style diffs - I thought they were all clutch type. What cars did these come on?

The Z3 3.0 automatic uses the 3.46 Torsen style differential.
Part number 33 10 2 508 262.
Supposedly an M thing, but no data supporting that.

Florian | I paid $400 from a fellow couper (thanks eric!). I believe he sourced it from Double02 Salvage in CA (hayward i think). Others have paid as low as $200. The guts looked even cleaner than my 3.15 (with 17K miles on it). So far no complaints.
my coupe is not a daily driver...so the shorter gearing doesnt bother me at all. i have driven a coupe with a 3.46 and i much prefer the 3.73 with an s54 personally.
