Was checking out brake fluid and stumbled on bulletin 34 09 01 dated 11/2001. BMW deleted the DSC pre pump on the X5-4.6is and will also be deleted on future cars. New configuration requires a lower viscosity brake fluid for cold weather.
My parts guy said it is made by Shell. They are now supplying the BMW factory in SC. http://www.shellchemicals.com/magazi...id=145,00.html
Bulletin follows:
Reply » DOT 4 ESL brake fluid
psst ... Castrol SRF, pass it on

Hmm, I thought they stopped making the 4.6is a few years ago???
