 Z3 Stereo technical question

I'm installing my Christmas presents from my wife and have a few questions. Yanked the stock head unit, changer and HK Amp. Have installed an Alpine 9835 head unit with 3 pairs of RCAs to the trunk. I have a JL Audio 300/4 Amp to run the front and rear speakers. The fronts are going to be replaced with a MB Quart 5 1/4 separates with x-overs in the trunk. Rears are up in the air right now but will probably be Boston Acoustics. Sub will remain stock until it explodes then will go with the Z3bass box w/ JL 6w0. So now that you know where I'm going with this, here's the question.

I don't want to run new speaker wire to all of the stock locations. Basically because its a pain with, what I suspect is, minimal benefit. My plan was to re-use the stock wires that came out of the HK Amp and tap into them. That plan may have been derailed but I need consultation with the great electrical / stereo gurus.

First. Can I reuse the stock wires? They're small, probably about 18 guage. Will they work? Or do I have to run new speaker wire forward? I don't mind rewiring the sub, or even the back speakers but I *really* don't want to redo the fronts.

Second. Presuming I can re-use the stock wires, can anyone tell me where I can get a male connector to match up with the 26 pin connector that is the output for the HK amp. I'd like to build a proper plug and harness rather than rig it up. I can do a nice job rigging but I don't want to if I don't have to.

I re-used the stock wiring to speakers. I run the same 300/4 as you.

I never looked into a male 26-pin connector and I have never seen one. I cut off the stock one with room to reattach if needed later. If you find one, that would be a trick solution. But then again, an audio purist would say you have an unecessary junction in your connections.

I did use heavy gauge to the sub and (heavier than stock gauge) to and from the crossovers.

I don't like hacking off connectors, so I've found ways to get around this on both my E46 and my E24. I don't know what the connector on a Z amp looks like, but the E46 one is pretty complex so I used one from an extra junk amp. The E24 one was more straightforward so I made a matching socket out of Molex pins and a piece of plastic.

Thanks guys. I hate hacking off the plug cause I know that I'll have to reattach it at some point in the future. I think I'll just build some plugs that I can put in and tape up. Although that solution is far from optimum. The connector is a fairly simple 26 pin affair with easy disassembly/reassembly. Looks like something a computer should be using. I'll try to get a pic this evening while I'm working on it.

Post some pics of the connector and any numbers that are on it and I'll look.

I think the connector is 61.13.8.373.618. Like Jon, I've never seen a mating connector (except in the amp). Also like Jon, I snipped mine off, knowing I'd never go back to the lousy stock amplifier setup. I could put it back, but can't think of a reason to ever do that, even when selling the car.

Ron, it's much like the ones for the DME (like X60004 in the ETM), but 26 pin instead of 20 pin.
