Mike S and I are going to put Bilstein Sports and H&R Springs on my car this weekend. I'm not doing camber plates.
I've read that lowering the suspension increases negative camber on the front and the rear but that it increases more on the rear which induces a tendency to understeer. I know that I can swap the strut hats left to right and increase negative camber on the front to even things out.
My driving is 99% street, no track.
For the bilstein/h&r sport combo, I'm interested in your opinions on whether to swap the strut hats or leave them as-is.
Thanks much

I would not swap the strut hats on the car unless it was going to see a lot of track time. Sure it will even things out a little bit, but you will also wear through those front tires a lot quicker due to the extreme camber. Another option to consider... instead of increasing front camber to match the rear, why don't you reduce the extreme rear camber by limiting the amount of lowering with the use of thicker spring pads. The H&R springs seem to lower the rear more then the front anyway, so I added a 10 MM pad on top of the stock 7.5 MM pads to achieve an even ride height front to rear. Doing so also straighten's the wheel a little, reducing the excessive camber angle, and hopefully reduced the rear tire wear.
Here's a good article identifying some of the factory BMW spring pads that are available.

What he said . I contemplated this, but like you, I was looking at mostly street driving, so I stayed with the stock hat setup. It worked out fine. I think short of installing front tires of equal width to the rears, you will always have some understeer with these cars .

Thanks for the advice.
Looks like I'll leave my strut hats alone for now.

Making your own spring spacers out of UHMW is cheap and easy and they don't squish like the stock rubber...
