As with any car they have their issues. Search for bearings and subframe and you will find lots of info on the coupe's biggest problems.
If the engine issues scare you off, get an earlier production M Coupe, the S52 is regarded as "bulletproof" by many. Recently made the switch from a Z3 roadster and haven't looked back (except to look at the car).

For engine reliability info, you should talk to E46 M3 owners, the same basic engine but there's a lot more of them out in the field, which can provide a better statistical base  .
