Started my car in the driveway this morning and bam! The airbag light stays on... searched this and other forums and the people that had their light come on were '99-'00s Z3 and MZ3 coupes and covertibles?--mainly faulty seatbelt switches/sensors etc. Before i bring it to the dealer, just wondering if anyone else in the '01 to '02 range had/has the same problem. And, what was the fault/diag when brought back from the dealer?  |

From what I know we share the parts with the older cars. So I see no reason why this will not happen on the newer cars as they age.

if somehow i can find the problem (maybe seatbelt sensor loose or other things), will the light actually turn off... or will i inevitably have to RESET at the dealer or using a reset tool regardless of whether or not it was fixed.
When i turn the ignition on again, will the light come on since it was on from before (memory effect)... or will it run a quick check again on all the lights?
3 local dealers are all booked until mid-january? WTF?!

The light must be reset by the proper electronic gizmo. Sometimes that works and the light goes off and stays off, sometimes it doesn't. Maybe someone in your area has the proper gizmo. Filling out the paperwork at the dealer will take longer than resetting the light.

Check your wiring under the seat. If you pinch a wire, it will set off a light. I dont think this is likely. THe S54 doesnt share and SRS equipment with the S52. We have dual stage airbags, and only one connector under the seat, the S52s have single stage airbags and about 3 connectors for the seat. FYI, I have never seen an S54 with a problem.

I knew about the single stage vs dual stage airbags but the seatbelt latch (that goes bad on S52s) I think is the same. I have not checked the ETK though... My friend with a 2001 M coupe had a problem with that though so it might not be so common but it can happen.
