As I prepare to put E46 HID Projectors into my M Coupe, I've just realized something startling.
I read way back that HID's do not like being cycled on/off very quickly (flashing), which is one reason they aren't used as highbeams unless there is another set of halogen bulbs on the car to "flash" people with.
With this in mind, I remembered that my DRL-Equipped M Coupe flashes the lowbeam lights while the alarm is going off. I've always thought it was a neat feature and never noticed it before I installed the DRL module.
My questions are:
- Do non-DRL cars (cars with the US-Spec highbeam module) flash their lowbeams while the alarm is going off?
- Assuming I cannot eliminate the flashing, will it hurt the OEM E46 Hella D2S bulbs/ballasts I'm planning to install?
- If yes to the two above questions, is there a way I can deactivate the flashing lights during the alarm cycle?
Thanks!

Most of the alarms can be set to few modes with different kinds of "flashes" "sounds" combos, i suggest you take a look in the manual.

Bump. Projectors came today...need to get this figured out.
Can someone with the OEM BMW Keyless Entry/Alarm **AND** a regular US highbeam module (anyone who hasn't converted theirs to the Canadian/Euro one will have the regular US one) please activate your alarm via the PANIC button on the key fob and tell me if the lowbeams flash while the alarm is going off?
Keep in mind that to turn the alarm off you need to get in and put the key in the ignition and turn it to position 2.
Thanks.

Sorry, I have the DRL module but if I remember right, the DRL module just cycles the high beams at a high rate. The DRL/High beam wiring has nothing to do with the low beams.. I could be wrong but you can sleep good knowing that the factory alarm never falses so I wouldn't worry too much about it. I've seen my HIDs cycle on and off with the alarm also and while it may shorten the life of the capsule, its probably nothing to worry about. (the only time I've even heard my alarm is when I hit the panic).

Swiped this off a PDF found on the Xenarc site:
"6. Some vehicles have anti-theft or lock notification whereby the headlamps are flashed. In general, continuous flashing shortens HID life. Lock notification is acceptable, but frequent alarm activation is not recommended."
