need sugges. to fix: Driver side brake smoking

Need to stop my brake pads from locking down, heating up and smoking.

The Story:

At first I thought the smell was coming from my clutch during spirited driving.

Then I noticed the car was pulling back alittle during acceleration.

Next I noticed smoke coming from only my front left wheel well.

This problem is not consistent, I find if I come to a complete stop and push my brakes in all the way then release, everything is ok. But as I push the brakes in a little it goes back to locking down on the rotor.

I took my caliper off, the brake pads have alot of meat left on them, so nothing abnormal there. They're also evenly worn. The rotors are still pretty ok, alittle smooth bump here and there, but really nothing so bad that it requires the rotors to be leveled.

So, now that the pads look good. All the grommets, greasing, and caliper bolts look like they're doing fine. I'm lost of a cause for this situation.

There is alittle black box, attached to the car body, that houses the connections for the pad sensor and abs pulse sensor. I found it completely open, not sure if that would cause any problems.

Please, anyone that has any ideas on how I could solve this problem of my calipers holding my brake pads down. Please, Please, give me any suggestions.

Thank You.

Sounds like a caliper rebuild kit is in your future. You've eliminated all of the non moving parts and its only one wheel. There's probably a rough spot on the piston that's causing it to stick. Go get a rebuild kit, take it apart, clean it up, put it back together again. You're good to go. There are lots of DIY instructions on caliper rebuilding. Use search.

It has to be a bad caliper- rebuild or now is good time to upgrade
