I am the process of getting rid of 2 Mercs. They required synthetic oil or the warrantee was voided. What type of oil do 2006 BMWs require. Our cars leave Bremerhaven today and the owner's manuals are on board!

I do believe Synthetic 5W30. I use Amsoil 5W40 and change at 7500 mile intervals.

1) You can obtain PDF file of the owner's manual thru BMWUSA.com Owner's Circle.
2) Why would you use anything other than Synthetic??

And the big thing is BMW requires oils that meet one of the LL standards adn ACEA A3/B3 standards. And AFAIK the only oils to do so are syntehtics.
BTW, if you have the VIN or Production Number (client advsor should be able to give you one or both) you can register online at the BMW Owner's Circle at www.bmwusa.com and download a PDF manaul.

I noticed that Castrol Syntec shows ACEA A1, B1, A5, & B5 on the label, but no A3/B3? What does this mean?
thanks
