What is the best M3 to date? I like the previous ones but also like the ones that came before them. Which is the better car performance wise?

The E92 335i Coupe. In practical terms, it does what the prior M3 does only with less harshness and more refinements.

Yeah right, lack of LSD serverely hampers performance.
The best M3 is the you are driving. They all have their pluses and minuses.

From a purists point of view: The E36 M3 was the best.
From a fun lover's point of a view: The E30 M3 is the best.
From a performance point of view: The E92 M3 is the best.
For a general great car point of view: The E46 M3 is the best, it combines the best of all the worlds and balances them out very nicely.

The E30 M3 is the purist car based, built and sold to the public so BMW Motorsport could enter a car and compete in professional motorsports.
The E36 M3 was a great car but not pure like the E30. Hell, BMW sold the E36 with an automatic trans option.
