I recently purchased a 2002 BMW 330 convertible. My mechanic was very impressed with the condition of the car when he examined it. My question is regarding the leather seats. Any thoughts as to why they have strong odor? He is thinking it absorbed some moisture from the air while it was in Florida. There is no sign of flood damage. And How do I get rid of it, short of replacing the seats. Also, the car may have been kept closed up in hot weather for a couple of months before it was sold. Thanks,

I have no idea, to be honest. Maybe you would have better luck posting this in the detailing forum?

Sounds like that "Seinfeld" episode where Jerry's Bimmer was polluted by a smelly valet! Perhaps try some mild soap and water solution followed by a good coat of Armourall. Good luck..

There may be mold or mildew on the inside of the leather and in the foam. You'd have to get one open to get confirmation.
Solution- new leather or new seats if the foam is growing live stuff.

My guess, the top was left down during a rain storm.
Mold and mildew in the seats. Not sure what the law says is this regard, I think it shold have been disclosed as flood damage/salvage.

If its the padding getting seats restuffed at an upholstry shop isn't very expensive.
