Help! Especially if you live in Ohio.
I have finally found the car that I have been looking to buy for my younger brother. A 1991 325iX Sedan. It has 95,000 miles, and 'appears' to be in good condition. They are asking $5000, which I think is reasonable if the car is what I think it is. I have a check ready, the problem is that I am in Austin. I found out through the Buckeye BMWCCA chapter that there is a recommended inspection service in the Cincinatti(sp?) area. It's around $100. I want to do this before I make a full commitment to flying/driving out there. I was wondering if there is anyone in the area that is willing to go look at this one for me, and give me their bimmerfest.com opinion. I really have my mind set on that year, and that model for some reason I have only been able to find 3 or so for sale in the country. Any help is appreciated http://autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?ca...ist=974#vdptop | | Reply » Help! I will say this... the price seems fair, but the car is an automatic.. I'm not sure that helps the value any...
There is a shop in Cincinnati (about 15 miles) that specializes in working on BMWs... everything from old 2002s to just out of warranty late-models... That is who I would want to look at it...

Hope this helps.. kyfdx

Obviously they wholesaled it. BTW, the auto tranny hurts the car as far as resale and reliability. Usually you will only get 100,000-150,000 miles out the tranny. You would be better too locate a car with a manual tranny.

I spoke to my mechanic here in Austin, and he recommended Just BMW. The auto tranny is a plus, as my parents plan on driving the car as well, and they are anti learning a stick. I've seen E30 auto's with 200K + miles on them, but that is good to know. How much would an auto tranny repair cost.
My biggest concern is that it is a Northern car and the rust is an issue. I am having a mobile inspection guy go and look at it tomorrow, but the more eyes the better.
If any of you could swing by and look it over, I would greatly appreciate it. If the car is in very good condition, i am thinking that the offer price isn't bad, and I might offer $4500.
Thanks again

Thanks again | I currently own a 92 E34 525i. I was told by a BMW Master Tech that it is unusual to get more than 150,000 miles out of BMW Auto trans as it was made by GM. BTW, I recently spoke with an independent BMW shop in Atlanta and they have had a rash of E46 3-Series where the tranny has gone at or near 80,000 miles.
Too repair, replace the auto tranny you are looking at $1500-2000.00 Depends on what you do and who does it.
