Does anyone have any recommendation about getting some type of third party extended maintenance coverage? I missed my opportunity to get it through BMW by about 2 weeks. I am thinking about having this for the next 2-3 years before I might purchase a new BMW. Everyone talks about how expensive the maintenance is. I have a 2002 330i.

I have an O6 325i with 4yr/50k mile serv/maint warranty, and I was inform by the dealership that i can extend it to 7yr/100k before my original covered time rans out.
Maybe, BMW or your dealership has that same insurance program or similiar ones, that you can qualify before your time expires.
BTW, just a note for GEICO Policy holders, that they could extended any new car warranty to 7yr/100k for $45/per 6 mo. policy period. But, the caveat is that yu need to enroll within the first 15 mos. of purchasing the car.

I know some people have a bird when someone says to do a "SEARCH", but if you look down a few posts there is another thread with this same topic already. Extended warranty threads are more numerous than the stupid oil and gas threads.
