HELP -- Service Indicator Light Prob.

Hi All,

So I had a Service II, about 10 weeks ago. When I got my '01, X5, 4.4l Sport back from that, the service indicator lights dropped from full light bar, to only 1 green light lit....this was about 4 days after the service. then the service engine light came on. i brought the car back in, and alerted them of both probs. the O2 sensor has to be replaced, and we're now monitoring the light to see if the cat. converter needs replacement as well. they reset the service indicator lights and all was good, unitl 3 days after that. once again the indicator bar has gone from full, to 1 green light. no other warning are showing, and no noticeable probs. w/ the car. has anyone dealt w/ this before? solutions to offer? it's bugging me because something's obviously off, no?

thanks in advance of any help you can offer!

In older BMWs, SI indicator problems typically are caused by the rechargable batteries in the unit failing. Your X5 is not quite old enough for this to be the problem, but I don't know of any other failure modes. The dealer fix would be to replace the unit.
