Messed up my paint at the car wash

Hello everyone.

Just would like some input on a little problem I just got.

I got a 2001 530D from a BMW dealer two months ago. Part of the pre-purchase agreement was that the hood be repainted as it had scratches. The work was done, everything ok.

But this morning, I was washing my car at a power-wash installation, and while spraying the hood I noticed that there was a very tiny spot on the paint. I sprayed it a bit closer and instantly blew off a dime-sized flake of paint.

I don't know what to think now. I think the little spot I had seen on the paint and that I thought to be dirt might have actually been a stone chip. Do you think that I was wrong in spraying that area in particular? Or is there something wrong with the paint? I'm not going to go to the dealer if I'm at fault, but I reckon that the paint should have held up.

What do you guys think I should do? Thanks in advance for your input.

Very unfortunate, but as the saying goes 'sh-t happens'

You wrote that it had to be repainted and the work was done. Where was the work done? Did they give any warranty for the paint job?

I'd contact the shop and talk to them.

Scheisse passiert.

I don't know about a warranty for the paint job. The dealer I went to uses this paint shop for all the repairs, so maybe there is one. I never dealt with the paint shop directly.

Yes, as annoying as it is, I'd contact the dealer and show them the paint.

Hopefully you have learned to avoid using pressure washers to wash your car. I only save them for when I'm on road trips to get bugs off the nose, and for my beater.

My car otherwise gets washes at home with a hose and bucket of soapy water.

Well it might have been that the paint wasn't applied properly and i'd try to get them to re-repaint it. I don't think it would have made a dang bit of difference if you used a pressure washer or not since most dealers use presure washers to wash their cars. It's all how you choose to negotiate the situation. But don't try to be forceful with the people or they won't do anything for you.
