 E46M3 is a "under 40" car.

So I went to lunch at In N Out across the street from my office (thanks for the idea, Patrick330i). I usually just walk but I went to pick up a table saw from a coworker, so I drove. Pulled in next to a 04 E46M3, lowered with HREs. I later saw that the owner was a guy in his early 30s. A minute after he left, a 02 E46M3 pulled in (yes, there are that many of em around here). I was somewhat stunned when a couple in their early 50s got out.

I realized that I've gotten so used to E46M3s being driven by 20-40 year-olds that it was a surprise when older people, that if I think about it, would be perfectly normal owners of M3s, got out of one. I definitely didn't feel the same back in the E36 days.

I was a 30-something E36 M3 pilot back '96, now I'm an over 40 driver of an E46 M3. I'll probably be one of those 50-something geezers behind the wheel of an E90 M3.

Although they're in the same price range, I don't think M3s appeal to the mid-life crisis crowd like a Corvette, for example.

Edit:
To be fair lots of people have wanted Corvette for a long-time but couldn't afford one until they were 50+.

ya i'd say its true. especially in socal

people in mid-life crisis usually want something more flashy than an M3.

most people couldnt tell a 325 from an m3

I would say this applies to 98% of the people in America. maybe 99.

I definitely wouldn't say this for a E30M3 or any other M car for that matter. But the E46M3, and to a lesser degree E36M3, really have become icons of the 'rich kid,' even in my mind.
