I have an opportunity (but not for long) to add HD Radio to my car and would appreciate everyone's input on this item. I already have Logic-7 Ordered as well as Sirius Radio. Now what the heck is this HD Radio thing?? I can't see it be worth the $500 price and be significantly better than what I alredy have. Please someone prove me wrong.  Thank you, beewang  |

Road and Track did a short article on it a few months ago...
Best I can tell, stations are now starting to transmit the signal differently to where the clarity and sound quality are better. Maybe these HD radios have a way of taking full advantage of the new signal 
There are two country stations here advertising that they are now broadcasting in "High Definition". I only have the base buisness CD, but have noticed that since the "change" the music does seem to be a little clearer.

My understanding -- HD Radio = digital radio. I.e., a digital signal broadcast over analog airwaves. Main advantage -- preserves fidelity of source versus traditional analog signals. Similar to HDTV in concept.

Okay... that beiong the case... I have that w/ my ordered of Sirius Sat Radio. I have noticed w/ Sirius Sat Radio, I almost NEVER listen to free radio anymore.

From the links, it appears that HD Radio is not a satellite, subscription-based service, but rather just an additional broadcasting medium for existing, traditional radio stations.
If you currently listen to, say, KROK 97.5 on your regular FM, and if they are also broadcasting in HD Radio, then you can listen to KROK by tuning in to them on the HD band.
