BMW Strikes Again
I finally talked our financial advisor into getting a BMW. I sent him to our dealer and Client Advsior who is a straight forward kind of guy.
But our FA went to another dealership and found a used '05 530i. To me, that would be a flag, why would a '05 be on eh used lot????
But he bought it, and loved it. Then it started having electronic gremlins. They thought it was this, then that, got a BMW NA engineer involved, still no fix. So 42 days into ownership, his car has been in the shop for over 14 days. And they still have no idea what is going on.
Now, think about it, this guy deals daily with people who have money to invest, which implies they have money for other things. And wouldn't you want a person in this position to be EXTREMELY happy with their car?
Let's see, "So you want to take some money out of your investment account to buy a car, what are you getting?" "A BMW, man, what a mistake, I had one, nothing but trouble, was in the dealer more than I got to drive it, I would take your $100K and go to Lexus/MB/etc."
Versus "Yeah, I have BMNW, great car, great service, they really take care me, good choice."
Obviously BMW dealers and BMW NA prefer the first choice.

| | Reply » BMW Strikes Again | Years ago my best friend shows up with a one year old used 325es...I had told him and told him to see me first if he ever decided to buy a BMW...he didn't. What he got was the service managers company car who was well known for not exactly abusing cars, but he sure did give them a workout. You guessed it, nothing but problems with the car for the short period he kept it and has been in a Toyota ever since. People need to be very careful buying used cars...BMWs are no exception.
| | Reply » BMW Strikes Again | Well good news, BMW NA got smart. The dealer gave him full credit back on the car, and BMW NA picked up the difference between the used car and a brand new one. So he has a new 530i for a used 530i price, and is a VERY happy customer.
Seems that the car had been in for similar service 3 times prior to his buying it. Sounds like a buy back to avoid a lemon action deal.
But my hat is off to BMW NA for doing the right thing. Now just keep it up and you will be the top car company in the US.

My question is this: Did the information provided in this thread help your FA decide what to do?
