 BMW Strikes Again

I finally talked our financial advisor into getting a BMW. I sent him to our dealer and Client Advsior who is a straight forward kind of guy.

But our FA went to another dealership and found a used '05 530i. To me, that would be a flag, why would a '05 be on eh used lot????

But he bought it, and loved it. Then it started having electronic gremlins. They thought it was this, then that, got a BMW NA engineer involved, still no fix. So 42 days into ownership, his car has been in the shop for over 14 days. And they still have no idea what is going on.

Now, think about it, this guy deals daily with people who have money to invest, which implies they have money for other things. And wouldn't you want a person in this position to be EXTREMELY happy with their car?

Let's see, "So you want to take some money out of your investment account to buy a car, what are you getting?" "A BMW, man, what a mistake, I had one, nothing but trouble, was in the dealer more than I got to drive it, I would take your $100K and go to Lexus/MB/etc."

Versus "Yeah, I have BMNW, great car, great service, they really take care me, good choice."

Obviously BMW dealers and BMW NA prefer the first choice.

Go to MB for a problem-free car?

I'd agree with Lexus, but MB? Nah

Sorry, somehow I suspect that the used 05 was probably a BMW buy back and he may have inherited a problem car. If he was the savvy FA he is, he would've jumped on the special 06 530i lease and taken ED.

I would agree that the car was probably a BMW NA "buy-back".

This is just another example of why you should never ever buy a used BMW without first getting a copy of the Vehicle History Report. This report will tell you when the car was first retailed, who purchased it, and will give you a list of all the options. More importantly it will give you a detailed history of all the warranty work performed on the car and paid for by BMW NA.

BMW dealers are required to disclose if a vehicle is a factory buy-back. BMW won't process the RDR without a signed disclosure.

More likely a dealer buy back to prevent the car from being lemoned is my guess.

ED was out due to lack of time. He went looking and got hooked and bought, instead of going and seeing the guy I know, who would have taken care of him.

But still stupid on th part of BMW NA and the dealer. Heck, if BMW NA comes through and makes him happy, do you think he will say nice things about the dealer?
