played my girlfriends ipod for the first time in my 06 530 xi t. i do have logic 7 and sat radio. the car did not come with the ipod adapter. so, we plugged it in to the lighter. it sounded muffled and she commented that it sounded as though the music was not coming through the door speakers. i switched back and forth to sat radio and there was ahuge difference. any thoughts/advice as to what is causing this?

what do you mean, "plugged it into the lighter"

if you plugged an ipod charger into the adapter you shouldn't hear anything,
there is no audio input through a cigarette lighter

when you switched to sat radio, you were probably listening to sat radio, which was why it worked

My brother had the ipod radio tuner, and then he got an alpine head unit that had a direct ipod connection, and the difference in sound is unbelieveable. It is way better with the direct connection, than it is with the radio tuner.
