I recently purchased a 2000 540i that did not have trunk mounted CD player in place. Not sure if it was removed prior to my purchase or came this way from factory.
I picked up a used factory 6 disc CD designed for this model but am having problems locating one of the wires that plugs into back of CD changer. The mounting kit I purchased came with instructions that say to plug in 3 pin AND 6 pin connectors to CD unit. I cannot find the 6 pin connector.
The instructions also state to ensure cd wires are installed in 17 pin connector. The sketch provided lacks detail and I'm not sure if this is the piece I'm missing. The 17 pin connector I assume is the one mounted on top of factory amp??
I've attached a few pics........maybe I'm overlooking something here.

IIRC the coaxial cable shown replaces one of the other wires, your car has the DSP audio. Hook those two up and see what happens. I can check my car later.

You were dead on. The coaxial and 3 pin connector were all that was needed. I did not even notice the coaxial plug on back of cd changer.
Works like a champ!!!!!!!
