 bmw540I sloppy suspension

Well here goes. I have a Bmw 540I 97. It has tons of upgrades from the time i had gotten it. Its basically an M5 now. my last problem i have had a hard time figuring out is the suspension. I have installed H/R SPORT SPRINGS about 7mths ago. and I have Koni adjustable front and rear shocks. they are set to full hard. I still have the problem with the car having a Lot of body roll. and feels like im going to wipe out in a corner. It also is very sloppy driving like im in a boat almost. My jeep cherokee handles better than my bmw. The only thing i havent changed is the Stock sway bars. Im not so convinced that this will really fix the problem. Are Koni shocks any good or do you think the sway bars will do the trick. Any help would be great. Thanks

This is all hard to gauge on the Internet....probably best to hook up with some fellow 540/M5 enthusiasts and take rides in each others cars...would probably help you nail it down a lot faster, and more definitively than speculating here.

thanks. i have been in a few cars. just cant seem to figure out what is the cause. could it be something other than the shocks or springs or swaybars????? I have the m5 package on this car. with the 18x9.5 rims in the back and the 18x8 in the front with low profile tires matching the m5's. any ideas at all??

BTW, what do you mean by the "M5 package"? You appear to have a lot of aftermarket parts, but nothing that is actually from an M5, right?

Well, I would be inclined to upgrade the sway bars...add the M5 front bar, and a Dinan rear bar. But I'm not sure what you are comparing to...the 5 series is a heavy car, and it will always be a bit more cumbersome than a true sports car. I love my 540 M-Sport, but when I run through some familiar twisties, I really feel the mass during transitions, and it leans a bunch more than my Ferrari 355 spider. My 540 has the stock M-Sport suspension II that it came with, FWIW.

Installing the rear bar looks to be a very easy DIY. The front looks like a LOT of work.

You sure you have your koni's set to full firm or full soft? Sway bars won't help if your jeep handles better than your BMW.... Something is wrong with your current suspension...

Had similar situation with my car minus the jeep comparison, the most important modification you can do for body roll is upgrade front and rear sway bars. Shocks and springs control dive and squat but do little for body roll. This should have been done after the springs. Call pacific BMW and ask for the diameter differences of the stock Vs Sport Vs M5 and this will open your eyes. Start by trying the rear sway which takes 15 mins to install and $110 purchase, that alone will make an unbelievable difference and convince you of the value.
