I am thinking about trading my M3 for a 540i. I have a lot of back problems and need some thing that rides a little smoother but don't want to give up all the power. Has anyone made this switch? I am starting to do a little research on these vehicles and there have been some great threads here lately. I have a couple questions if someone can help. What is the warrantee and included maintenance for the '03's ? Kind of a dumb question...what is the button on the top of the seat in this pic?

Hey Bill,
The warranty and maintenance on the '03's is 4/50 and 3/36. That button on the seat controls the articulating seat back of the 'comfort seat'...
The comfort seats are awesome for a bad back...

Thanks Jon! I'm struggling with this decision I'm going to go and drive a couple tomorrow and see what I think. Didn't the maintenance go up to 4 years at some point?

I didn't actually come from an M3, but my previous car was a 2001 330ci. I sold it in October 2003 and bought a 2003 540a with the sport package. I'd definitely say, go for it.

I went and test drove some cars today. I drove an E39 M5 for the first time. That's quite a car! But...I the 540i is exactly what I thought it would be. I drove an '03 with the sport package and an '02 without sport and with comfort seats. I wasn't too sold on the comfort seats but I did like the '03 sport. I guess I need to start thinking about selling the M3 Anyone care to make me an offer? Ready to upgrade yet Jon???
