 E39 Armrest Kit Parts Photos

Wooo hoo ... the embossed leather E39 front console armrest parts finally arrived!

Here's a photo of the parts necessary for those contemplating this $400 comfort & convenience mod. Notice, (see details in Agent99's URL http://members.roadfly.com/Agent99/armrest.htm), depending on exactly what you purchase, the arm rest cushion itself may or may not arrive bolted to the base; and the black metal base may or may not slide and tilt. In fact, depending on what you purchase, the armrest cushion may not even open up to the tray below. Also notice that the embossed Monterey LEATHER IS AVAILABLE for the kit (which wasn't the case when some of the upgrade guides were initially written). And, realize the Napa (smooth) leather is NOT available in BMW gray (from Pacific, anyway), but smooth leather is available in black & tan (from Pacific). Also, pure genuine vinyl is available in all colors for those who want to replace the armrest with as close to stock components as possible (but, since I have BMW-sensitive elbows, I opted for the softer leather). More about choosing the right leather is at http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=81317

Also note the additional nuts & washers required (which are not supplied by Pacific) as per discussion on thread http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=91525 (where we forgot about those during the last one I helped assemble & where we bought the wrong leather).

Big problem.
The gray leather color from Pacific isn't even close to the original color.
This is not good (there's no way I'm going to put that in the car).

Pacific kindly agreed to take back the off-color armrest.
But I'm really bummed out (as I really wanted it to work out).
I'm wondering (for the sake of all of us gray owners) ...

Has anyone been able to get the correct gray leather color?
Or is it just me?

hmmm.....just took a pic of mine (sorry for the low quality pic, but i just had my cheap spare digcam in car). Mine was an exact match.

I ordered mine at SFBMW. I see that your top hatch has a nice notch for grabbing.

Thanks for the photo (to help both me and others).

As you noted, yours is different from the 51.16.2.428.077 in two ways:
- The 077 seems to have a nicer handle for your hands
- Yours is the correct color (the 077 is too white for a 2002 525)

I have no idea what the 51.16.2.428.353 is going to look like with respect to those two concerns and with respect to the smooth/embossed leather matching characteristics.

Time will tell ...

Hey Shaftdrive,

Once you get the right part, what will you be doing with your old armrest?

Are you willing to part with it?
