Pulled The Trigger On My First Bmw
Hello all,
I just wanted to introduce myself. I'm KC from Los Angeles. I just bought a CPO 2002 540i 6 speed for $32,995. It has 43,800 miles on it. I plan on getting it inspected on Saturday at California Beemers.
Does anyone know where I can find the package and options list for this year and model BMW? I want to know what options I don't have. It looks like it's fully optioned to me, but I want to know for sure.
Also, since this type of car is pretty rare to find, I decided to go with this 2002 even though I wanted a 2003. I want to do some modifications to make it look like a 2003, but not if it will break the bank. From my understanding, the differences in both years are:
DVD nav (Don't care) M foot rest (Don't care) M bumpers (I really want this) M double spoke wheels (I really want this also) M door sills (maybe) Black headliner (Don't care) Revised sport suspension (too much hassle to change I'm assuming so I'll pass) Revised steering wheel (What's the difference?) Head/Side Protection in the rear (Don't care) Am I missing anything else?
Thanks in advance, and I look forward to being on this forum pretty often!

Thanks in advance, and I look forward to being on this forum pretty often! | The nav is a stand alone option on all years. I think only the 7 series came standard w/nav but don't quote me on that. Only the 2003 sport auto steptronic or 6 speed came w/the M-Bumpers. I am converting my '03 530 as we speak to the M-technic bumpers at the tune of about $3000. You can save some $ if you install these yourself which at this point the $3000 includes the install. I also have the M-parallels that are on the '03 540 sport. These will set you back another $1800 or so plus another grand for tires, balance, install etc. The '02 sport steering wheel is the same as '03. The big differences are the aero bumpers and 18" staggard wheel set up. You will probably spend about $6000 total to make it like the '03. I don't think there is anything else you did not mention. There are other stand alone options like DSP stereo, PDC, cold weather Pkg, shades, comfort seats, split folding rear seats, rear side/head airbags. Oh yea.....the '02 has 3 years/36k full maintanance program and '03 has 4 year/50k.

The bank is pretty tough...But not tough enough as evidenced by the CPO not NEW 5 series. (Hey I'm still a 25 year old grad student lol...) I spent about $10,000 on my Prelude. Promised myself I wouldn't touch the BMW, but I'm getting the itch after only 2 weeks of ownership hahaha...
