I received a clutch overheat warning on the idrive, then the car started to bog - the message read "clutch overheat, pull over immediately."

after restarting the car - the problem seemed to go away - has anyone had this problem?

Does anyone if this is the clutch or idrive having issues?
How can the clutch overheat on its onw? Its not like you can ride the clutch in auto mode?

Can anyone assist - thanks

Yes you can ride the clutch in Sequential mode. If you idle up a hill, or hold the car on an incline by using very light throttle, the clutch is being slipped and can overheat. Several people did this in the early days of SMG II on the E46 M3.

thanks for the info. thats exactly what happened, just waiting on a hill for the light to turn in san francisco. Do you if I should in the future just leave in neutral, since I wasn't even giving any throttle, just break and waiting.

Thanks again!

No, stand on the brake, like you would ina normal manual car. You may not have had the brake fully on.

Drive SMG like you would a manual and it will be fine. Start thinking it is like an auto and you will burn up the clutch.
