 Parking light problem

Hi all,

I have just drove my car to work this morning and the message check parking lights was on when I started the car. I had my lights turned off. After about 30 mins the message had not gone away so I turned my side/parking lights on (just the first click on the light switch). After a few mins the message went away. So I turned off my lights, the message came back after a few mins.

When I got to work, after about 50 mins driving the message was still there, I turned on my side lights again and walked around my car and notice the left front light was out, but strangly the left indicator was on, not flashing, just permantly on. I opened the hood and checked the connector to the indicator, then went back to the car to check the message, but it had gone, and now the indicator had gone out and the side/parking light was on again.

Weird!

I have had problems in the past, when I had the low instrument cluster, every so often it would say there was a problem with the rear lights, a bulb out. But there wasn't any out, so I cleaned up all the connectors and it has seemed ok for ages.

Can some one tell me what message I would get on the high cluster for rear light problems, ie bulb out, just so I can see if this new problem is related or not.

I am begining to suspect the LCM may be dodgy, what do you think?

Any ideas or steps I can take to identify the problem?

It's still under BMW warrent, but I do not want to take it in yet, I already know the answer I will get, CAN'T RECREATE PROBLEM, NO PARTS TO SWAP UNTIL THEN!

Any helps is appreicated.

There is a good chance that one of bulbs (side marker or blinker) is about to go, or the contact points on the bulb is corroded therefore making intermittent contact.

How would that explain the indicator lighing up instead of the parking light?

Thanks

Neil

But isn't the indicator light normally comes on together with the sidemarker? I would get some new bulbs and swap them in before messing with the LCM.

When I turn the lights on, ie the first click on the dial (we call them side lights in the UK) the two inner lights on my headlights should light up. I have non-angel headlights. Instead of the inner left bulb coming on, the amber indicator (turn signal) on the left light comes one. So have the inner white side light on the right light and the indicator (turn signal) light on the left right.

Thats why I suspected the LCM, because I thought it controls what lights gets turned on.

I will check all the bulbs tonigh and give them a good clean.

Thanks for your help

Neil

Neil,

Does the righ indicator light on also?

In the US Touring car, if I turn the side lights on (one click on the light control knob), I have the left and right indicators on, these are the same bulbs that use as signal (blinker).

The reason I ask is because if your right indicator is on together with the inner light then maybe your left high beam bulb is bad?
