Paint on my 2000 540i valve covers is flaking off in a big way. During my upcoming valve cover gasket replacement, I'm going to take the covers to a local powder coating shop and have them coated.
My question is: Does anyone have any pics of a nearly new 2000 4.4 liter engine showing the original color of the valve covers? The paint on mine is a silvery gold color. Some pics I've seen on the forum show covers that are more gold than mine.
Thanks

Here are some of my Ee38 oil change pictures.
2000 740iL
Pretty much the same color as the 2003 540i/6, though they do look like they have a little less gold color than the E38 ones.

I'm pretty close to the same process- It evdently important that they know the valve covers contain magnesium. It is also my understanding that because of this, paint (nor powder coat) adheres particularly well and you (and I) will be doing this same thing again in about three years. Having had no real world experience with the phenom, I can not say if it's true. Hopefully we'll prove it wrong.

This place has powdercoated covers in stock for '97-'98 540s. I'm hoping they'll come out with a version for mine when the time comes.
