Greets,
This is something I've noticed occurring over the last couple of weeks.
As I brake, right before I come to a stop I'll sometimes hear a crunching type noise. It seems like it's coming from the front.
This noise doesn't sound metallic, rather, it sounds like the ABS system is engaging. I don't feel anything in the pedal, though, and at this time, I do not have any warning lights on.
It seems to happen more - when the car is cold - when I brake slightly harder than normal
It does not happen when I brake very lightly or very hard.
Clues?
TIA

I have the same issue on my 2003 530i. Dealer says they can't duplicate the problem.

Slvr, nice car. Your AE lights, are they stock or aftermarket? I like them. What do you have?

I think its like my 98 e39 528.... its the brakes!!!! You''ll need to replace the pads and rotors. You can take them apart and clean it, but it will only last a few weeks. Might be a cheap option than spending money. It is the most annoying thing about this car. Hope this helps Rick
