My dealer unoffically claims that Front 255/35/19 and Rear 285/30/19 fit the 550i.
Any thoughts on this? Jiio are you there?

This is another case where a dealer is definitely CLUELESS.
Those front tire dimensions are for the M5 with the wider front fenders. The rears are okay. You can use either 275 or 285. Non-M models (550, 545, 530, 525) are recommended to run 245/35/19 and 275/30/19 by BMW.
DanM3, You will eventually come to realize that the people here and on e60.net are much more informed than the dealer. Always ask here or e60.net first before committing to anything with the dealership. It will save you a lot of heartache.

Thanks. That is what I thought as well. And I did ask here as soon as I got the info.
How does increasing the width of the rears to 285 change the handling of the car, less understeer, etc.? Does the 285 tire have any negative aspects?
Thanks again,
Dan

285s will help with reducing the understeer. The only negative with the 285s is that you will be running slower i.e. with a stock setup doing 60mph, the 285s will be doing 59mph. See the attached picture.

See the attached picture. | Thanks. The inverse is true with 275s, correct? It seems that the 275s will run at 60.1 MPH when the stocks are at 60. This is a minor difference though. See picture.

Yes. the differences are really minute. Most people who chose 285s are going for the aesthetic look. I wanted 285s but was talked out of it by my body shop. Now, to fill in the wheel well I'm going to insert H&R 10mm spacers. I've spoken to enough people where I am confident that installed correctly there will be no vibrations.
