I can not decide if i should buy a used 2002 mercedes s-class from a friend with 60k miles on it or buy or a new 2007 530i . Any thought? i do have a bad back so i would get the comfort seats. I have been driving the s-class for a few months and it is super quiet and a smooth ride. FYI i do mostly freeway driving and i drive about 30k miles a years. I appreciate all your expert opinions.

The comfort seats in the BMW are incredible. I just switched from a Benz, but it was an E-class so not the same. I love the 530xiT though.

kind of a biased group to ask
60K miles seems on the high side, especially with you adding 30K/year and a new 530i sounds fun to me - have you driven one? BMW and Benz seem very different to me in terms of road feel and I reckon a 7er would be more comparable to an S-Class?
Does warranty and maintenance matter much? Does the Benz have any of that left?

I sold a 2002 S 430 to buy a 2007 550 and have never been happier. I owned a 1999 528 and bought the S 430 on a whem. I liked the looks, quality and some features of the MB but it had no passion , no feel for the road. I drive to work every day with a smile on my face in the BMW. I have nothing bad to say about the MB if you want a great corporate highway crusier get the MB if yo want to drive and have a good time on the road get the BMW.

no warranty left. i am afraid of the cost of repairs. 7 series is out of my budget so i am about to pull the trigger on the new 530 but i am kinda afraid i will miss the smooth, quiet ride of the s-class. it is very boring though on weekends and a second car is not in the budget. 2002 s-class technology(phone, navigtion, satelite radio, etc..) just sucks. 5 series is the only other car i like besides the s-class

My "Expert" and "Unbiased" opinion is: Get the BMW 530i
1. Brand new, don't have to worry about repairs (more expensive on the MBZ S than on the BMW 5er) 2. 4 Full years or 50K of preschedule maintenance ($$$$ worth of savings! over the expired warranty of the MBZ) 3. Very comfortable seats (assuming you get Multi-Contour seats) 4. Fun to drive 5. Make you FEEL younger 6. Make you LOOK younger 7. More tech goodies 8. You can get the color of your choice, not what your friend picked 9. Again, Fun to Drive!
These are just few of my "Unbiased Expert" opinions
Hope this helps you decide
