The 550i has been compared to the Lexus GS450h in the July issue of R&T.
550i (six speed):
0-60: 5.0 0-100: 12.1 1/4 mile: 13.5 @ 105.0 mph skidpad: 0.92g slalom: 65.3 mph
GS450h
0-60: 5.3 0-100: 12.5 1/4 mile: 13.8 @ 105.4 skidpad: 0.83g slalom: 60.7 mph
The BMW has slightly faster times due to the 6-speed vs. CVT (probably gave a better launch) , but you can see with the 450h that the 1/4 mile trap speed is slightly higher, so real-world thrust should be about the same for both. The 550i is significantly better handling. The test car had a sport package, but not the M-sport.
The 550i is also a little heavier than I thought at 3945 lbs curb weight...thought it was 3800.
Either way, these are very impressive numbers for 4000 pound sedans!

Although the numbers were quite similar in many ways, talk about apples to plums. I could have come up with several different cars to put up against the 550. The Lexus was not one of them. Must be slow around the R&T offices lately.

Quote: | What is the M-sport? I assume you are not talking about an M5. | It has the M5 (or at least a similar) body kit with side skirts and diffuser, and the 19" M5 wheels. Also stiffer suspension, M door sill plates and an M steering wheel. Chrome trim is also blacked out ("high gloss shadow line").
