Spontaneous bulge in sidewall of runflat

Despite the absence of any pothole or trauma, my front driver's side runflat has developed a bulge or kink in its sidewall. It runs fine, and seems like it won't effect the performance of the tire, but I don't want to take a chance at highway speed.

I called my dealer, and they pretty much told me to take a hike because its a tire, and BMW will not warranty tires no matter what. I think that is load of crap because the car had 3,700 miles when I first noticed the bulge.

Anybody out there have a similar experience? If so, what did BMW do for you?

I read something similar to this before. I suggest you do a search here or over in e60.net. It's a defective tire. The dealership should take care of it for you.

Good luck!

I have seen the same thing in the past, but so long ago I don't remember the details - pretty sure that it was taken care of by either NTW or BMW though, where ever it came from, as I don't have an angry memory about it. They should take care of it. My 98 M3 came with Dunlop tires on it and the car wouldn't track straight - after a week of that, the dealer replaced all four tires with Pilot Sports, no hassle at all.

No matter if BMW or the tire mfg, there should be some coverage on something that new - the tire is clearly defective.

tire mfr should handle this one for you...its not your dealer's problem or bmw's. just get in touch with your tire mfr and let them know what is going on. when i had issues with tires a few years ago (pirelli P6000 sport veloce) they handled it soooo well that i came back years later and bought the P-Zero Nero M&S for our Audi and loved them. had i not had such a good customer service experience i wouldn't have bought pirellis again.

long story short, call your tire mfr. their tire warranty might only cover them for a short time...but its worth a shot.

Sounds like a damaged tire caused from a pothole or going over something. Samething happened to me on my Lexus SC430 and it cost me a new tire. Good luck.

You need to take this up with the tire manufacturer.
