I Hate New York City! (Roads, that is!)

Anyone DRIVING IN NEW YORK CITY - READ THIS!

I was driving in the left lane on the Brooklyn Bridge (east-bound) and I hit a pot hole! I was doing about 40mph and the hole cracked both front and back drivers side rims! And I'm not talking about a bend! Both rims were cracked IN HALF!!!

Never thought I would say this, but THANK GOD for run-flats. Only because of them was I able to drive into Brooklyn and U-turn back to Manhattan where I waited 2 hours for a flat bed!!!

I called 311 while I waited and filed a report with the DOT about the pothole. Not sure if I have any recourse due to the "Pothole Law", but if it happens to anyone else - I have the report number!!!

Gas station attendant in Brooklyn said he saw 4 bent rims last night alone from the same hole! I need to stay in New Jersey!!!

I took some with my cell cam, but they didn't light well (it happened at 9pm). I will take some from my digital camera this week and post. Amazing how a wheel can crack in half like that!!

Thats why I ordered my car without Sports package. I have had my shares of potholes and low profile tires.

Good luck.

NYC Sux elephant b---s. NJ where I live is really truly the fifth ring of hell. Why am I here again?

Didn't your sales rep/dealer warn you about the higher risk of damage to rims when ordering sports package? Should have kept that in mind, and/or read the "low-profile wheels/tires more susceptible to road hazards and consequential damage" disclaimer.

But yes, NYC roads suck. Driven through there twice with the X3 and its (overly) firm suspension, and it literally hurts esp. if you're in the backseat. It was funny, although embarrassing, when my aunt had a cup of coffee in the backseat but was holding the cup as if her life depended on it cuz 35mph on those roads almost made the coffee spill. When we got to a stop light we said "ok, its a red light" and she proceded to drink her coffee. As soon as she raised it to her lips, the light turned green and we said "oh sorry, the light turned green", putting her back in her misery. (Don't start with the "you shouldnt have let her bring coffee in the car" complaints)
