 break-in period

hello all
i have a question about the break-in period.
on the manual, it says "avoid uses of the transmission's kick down mode", can anyone explain what this means?

also read some stuffs about break-in period.
dont downshift to a lower gear just to vary the revs. (does this mean simply removing the feet off the accelerator pedal??)

don't forget to decelerate every now and again, in gear. (so for an AT, the best way to do this is by not accelerating and by braking??)

kinda confused... how to use engine break in an auto-trans?

LASTLY, is there a way to make the fan or vent not to come on when i start the engine? or does this just come on automatically when the car get started, and do i have to turn the fan off manually then??
thanks~

During the break in period just drive normally, with that I mean don't push it. Don't slam the gas paddle and don't use cruise control, just baby it a bit and try to not maintain a specific speed and let it vary a bit on long distance drives. Other than that, just have fun.

As for the AC, if you don't like it blowing right away when you start the car then you just need to manually turn it off.

"Kickdown mode": When you press the accelerator moderately, but all the way, it will reach a point of resistance. If you apply more force at that point, the accelerator will go a bit further. I don't think you get more power from the engine, but the transmission will downshift at that point (and off you go). Try this with the engine off to get a feel for it... Most (all?) German made cars have this feature.

Driving in M/S mode during break-in is not a bad idea as long as you don't "push the car." Use the gears to slow down the car when coming to a stop light. The mechanic that put a new engine in my Mini Cooper a long time ago (as in the original mini cooper) told me to "let the engine rev freely" and to "avoid using the torque power of the engine." Let's say you have a choice between picking up speed with low RPM in 3rd gear vs. changing down to 2nd, then back up to 3rd, the latter is better for the engine. High RPM (but under the 4,000 limit) under light load is better than low RPM under heavy load.

The A/C system should start out in the mode you were in last time you drove the car, so I assume you do use the fan normally. When you re-start the car, the A/C system will attempt to bring the temp down to where you like it, but you can adjust the intensity of the auto-fan through iDrive.
