How long does Assist *really* last?

Hi all,

Bought my car about a year ago and it supposedly came with free BMW Assist for a year. I was surprised to see a letter saying that my Assist was ending about a month sooner than it should have. I sent off an email to their customer support asking why, and they replied (after 6 weeks, btw).

Quote:
Thank you for contacting BMW Assist in reference to renewing your services.
In most cases, BMW North America LLC starts the complimentary time from the original release date of the vehicle, once it is delivered to the dealership.
Delivered to the dealership? What's up with that? So I didn't get a full year because it was on the lot for a month?

In the big picture, it's trivial -- but still stupid.

The worst part:
Quote:
Our records indicate that your vehicle was previously owned.
I guess someone owned it for less than 7 miles then.

Assisted is activated when you pick up the car. It is deactivated if waived on delivery ... or after a period of time if the initial call isn't made. Good for a year once Assist is activated from delivery.

It is activated by the dealer, if it is sitting in the car yard or driven by dealer staff it may not get activated till it's sold to a private buyer
