You likely need that steering sensor replaced. 2000 sensors were reportedly on backorder recently for the US market.

I had this problem come up a couple of days ago. It went away and came back. I have an appointment tomorrow to get it fixed. I will let you know what it is is. BTW I have a 2006 525 with only 5500 miles.

I heard of a similar situation to this when powersteering fluid is below Max. Maybe the same thing??
