A few questions about Launch Control before I use/abuse it:

1. Any experiences (second or third hand as well) about how many times it can be used before it ruins transmission, clutch, engine, and tires?

2. Has BMW ever voided a warranty due to use of AA?

3. Is this the right way to use it - DTC on, DSC off, SPORT on, Auto on (so I don't have to watch for the shift point), and just floor it when I want to move?

My main concern is that I'm trusting the computer to balance the power, clutch and traction of the car. In a manual, I had full control myself. I could modulate the power when I feel the car breaking traction, let out more clutch when the car was engine was catching, and adjust the throttle with clutch slippage. Call me old fashioned, but it seems foreign to trust some computer chip to do this all.

Thanks.

but as for Launch, it is a feature designed into the car, i don't think you will have warranty issues. You can use it many many times before it will ruin your clutch. I wouldn;t worry too much about the tranny... the clutch... thats where you'll wear out first.

I just don't recommend you use it everytime coming out of a stop light... take 1 every 4-6 weeks and call me in the morning....

as for your question #3 and your main concern, you won't have a choice you can only shift too soon than over rev your engine.

Turn off DSC, sport on, not necessary in auto mode.

STOMP on the gas... (do not be alarmed at the loud thump when the clutch drops) and the car will shift for you before redline even if you are in manual mode. However, you can still shift sooner if you want to by pressing on your pedals.

Have fun!
