Took the car in for its 12 month or 15K service yesterday with 2 complaints:

- worn wipers
- drivers upper window seals making “creaking” noise

One of the more satisfying components of being a BMW owner (pre 04) is the complete coverage the warranty provides. Its so nice to say “replace X” wear item and its done. These are the types of issues during ownership that create loyalty.

As to the window issue, I was worried that I had torked the car somehow and things had shifted creating body alignment issues but the service mgr. immediately acknowledged what I was talking about and said it was becoming more apparent in 5’s they were seeing. He said BMW recognized it as an issue with the compounds the rubber was made up of. Being a bit familiar with auto mfgs. practices, they’re always 2 fixes: low or high tech and they’ll choose the cheapest everytime which in this case, comprised of applying some type of silicone all the way around the seal which to this point, has done the trick. The other is a complete replacement that is made-up of better materials.

So 1 year with 12,700 miles with only these little issues. Other than the early on transmission “slam” that I experienced (like so many others) which was easily fixed with a CIP upgrade, the car has been a pleasure to own and drive.

One other observation, a little door just above the trunk release button was left popped open and I could see a wire with coupling attached to it. Could this be what they use to interface with a diagnostic computer?
