used 325IT 2001
I have the opportunity to trade in my 2000 Audi A4 Avant AWD, with 95,000 miles, in on a bmw 325 IT 2001 with only 30,000 miles RWD. My only concern is the reliabilty of driving the bmw in chicago winters. . .any midwest drivers( or other) who can help me out?
Thank you in advance. djoyl

It snowed an inch the first week and the car was a mess w/ the 17" summer tires(yes, i do know how to drive in snow). I immediately bought a set of Dunlop winters and 16" alloys to make a "winter set". I plan to use them from Dec1 to April1 like i have done in the past for my other cars. Like bmw3302001 and countless others have said, these cars are great in the snow w/ a winter set.

That said, if you're driving your RWD on snows and you have a difficult time getting anywhere, its probably a good indicator that you should stay put no matter what kind of car/SUV you have.
I had an A4 quattro prior to my 2001 325iT and I live in the DC area which is borderline for dedicated snows (the whole place closes down at anything more than a dusting anyway). On all-seasons, the cars handled the snow about equally with a slight tip towards the audi. However, anyday without snow on the road, the performance/handling is overwhelmingly in the BMW's favor.

I never felt unsafe at any time in anything I would consider driving in. I lived in the snow belt of Central New York for 5 years so I've driven in some serious snow.
