 E60 550i vs. E39 M5

I owned the previous generation (E39) M5 and I'm thinking of buying the new 550i with sports package. Can anyone tell me what difference to expect performance wise in daily spirited driving?

Personally I can't see the E60 550 giving up much except exclusivity compared to the E39 M5.

Personally I'd rather have the NEU E60 550.

Im sure the E39 would be a better handler and all around better sports sedan. But in terms of sheer speed, I think it might be close.

Same here, and I went with a 550i loaded - should be here in 2 weeks, then I'll know how they compare. In test drives (with Steptronic - no SMG or manual to try), the 550i is not near the thrill of the M5 and I am hoping SMG will make it more fun. And the run-flats don't seem as spunky as the Michelin PS. That said, there's a ton of new technology in the 550i, so it should be a cool car - about 40 horses short too though, so whereas the M5 had almost no limits to its enthusiasm, I think the 550i will just be nice and strong.

I dumped my M5 because I will be needing to travel out of town more and I have to have a spare - the (im)Mobility kit is a joke and RA ain't going to do me any good when traveling through rural South GA - getting a flat fixed would probably be a two or three day ordeal best case - even in Atlanta, you can easily waste a day dealing with it. So with the 550i I get run-flats and a donut. Seems like an $80K car could have real spare tire - like the good ol' days - maybe next time I go for a 750.

Thanks guys. I'll be sure to get mine with a manual to add some life to the vehicle. By the way. By the way, I am almost at the end of a 2-yr lease on 745li and I have to tell you it's the best all-around vehicle I've ever driven. The 750 should be even more awesome with that bit extra power.
