 CIP 21 Rocks. EOD

Got my 550 back from the dealer today, and CIP 21 is a PHENOMENAL improvement. the drivability is much, much better, and the transmission shifts "like buttah" as we say here in Bahstahn.

the dealer also swapped my Nav DVD for v. 2006-2 which is an improvement (though I haven't had time to really play with it yet).

Also installed my Sirius which had been back-ordered. Looks like a very fun weekend ahead!

What reason did you have to give to your dealer to get the update? I tried to use the 'RDS radio stutter' and my dealer said no "codes were logged" so no update. Thanks for any ideas. -steve-

Just told him the truth (as others here have documented, these are common problems): on a cold start, the V8 is very, very rough at idle; brakes are very jerky while engine is idling; downshifts are harshl etc. Although I did NOT complain about the steering, I was amazed at how much CIP 21 improved the steering feel.

My dealer is awesome, and the fact that I bought 2 cars from him in the past 3 months (and referred a coworker who bought a 3rd) no doubt helped.

My bet is that dealers want to do the warranty work, since BMWNA pays for it, but need something to justify it aka codes. However, the rough idle on cold start is pretty easy for the SA to verify.

Good luck!

What version did you previously have?

Thanks for the info. I had an appointment to update from 20.0 but had to blow it off due to travel. I need to call the dealership back and re-schedule. But with 20.0 my shifts have been really really smooth, EXCEPT for that one issue when I come to a rolling stop at a stopsign and the car hasn't downshifted into first. I give it a little throttle at that point and it SLAMS into first so hard I think a truck hit me from the rear. I get this maybe once every 2-3 weeks.
