Emergency dumb questions on HUD & Bluetooth

Why's it an emergency? Because am finalizing my order for a 550i and today is my last chance to pick options before the order goes to Germany...

Question One: does the HUD work at all with polarized glasses? Can you compensate for the loss of image by cranking up the brightness?

Question Two: does the voice-command technology work on Bluetooth phones even if no nav system installed (do you need nav to get voice-command for the fone)?

Bonus Question: without nav, what other non-nav voice command functions are not available that would be there if nav were installed?

Great forum. Great thanks for the help.

Get the Nav, you won't regret it. That way you'll know for sure that voice command works since it does for me with Nav.

Regarding question #2, yes the voice commands work for the bluetooth phone without navigation. I do not have nav, and the commands work fine on my phone. You may get extra commands with nav, I'm not sure on that.

Even though I don't necessarily miss navigation, there are times where I wonder if I should have gotten it. If you get nav, I don't think you will ever regret it. But, if you don't, and you had devated whether to get it or not, you may regret it because you can't add it later. At least no one on the forums have found a way to add it at a reasonable price.

Don't know anything about HUD.

Good luck on your purchase. You are going to love your car.

I remember seeing a thread (possibly on the "e60 Forum" board) where several people said the HUD display is not visible with polarized sunglasses. You might do a search there.
BT voice commands work without NAV
Re NAV, I opted out because I have a Garmin Streetpilot III. Not as elegant as a built-in, but it moves from car to car, and can be reprogrammed on the fly, as I understand the built-in NAV cannot.

You can somewhat see the HUD better by putting it at max brightness.

Let me put it this way, the HUD is cool enough that unless you wear polarized sunglasses every second you are in the car, I wouldn't hesitate to get it again.

Also, there is no standard as to how a company decides to polarize them (i.e. there is a direction associated with polarization, it is a vector quantity). With my Maui Jims on, I just need to crane my neck 45 degrees and the HUD is very bright (due to being on max brightness) but I still can just make it out without doing this.

i did see the post on not see the hud polarized glasses and turning up the brightness will probably not work.
