 Not so fast 550

I have a 2007 550-sport, steptronic.
I love the car, but does not have the punch that other 550's i drove have had.
Even my buddies 545-steptronic has more urgency off the line.

Anybody have a similar issue with an 07 similarly equiped or 06?

Had a service tech drive my 07 and a 2006. He said the 06 felt faster and thought maybe BMW changed the programing to smooth out 2007.

Is it a differnece between the Sport and non sport version? The 2 non-sports i drove just felt lighter and moved like scalded cats..

Only issue I am aware of with my car was it was detained at port due to a strut issue.
Gas pedal feels a little tight. Am i being burned for getting such a new 07?

Try resetting the ECU. I think this is done by removing the negative battery cable for 10 minutes. The car then forgets everything about your driving style. Some people have had oil changes when this is done for some reason and come out thinking they have a new car.

If that does not help, take your car and get it dynoed - if it is way off the mark, then you have a claim.

You pretty much have the same car as mine except I believe you have an 06? Which makes me wonder if BMW changed anything for 2007 models. Starting mine out in reular drive the car goes nowhere. I know regular D starts car in 2nd gear, but it is bad especially making a right hand turn.. Just seems like there are dead spots where the others I drove had none...

Wonder if i should wait until full break in to reset ECU. Car is still fresh hard to believe this would help, but im willing to try...

How new is your 07? BMWs take a good while to really brake in. I remember my brand new 330 took past 20k to really get goin.

This is very interesting.

I have an 05 645, same engine as the 545. Drove the car about 10k miles before going to the 6 series driving school.

While at the school, I drove a 650 (550 engine) all day long.

I could not tell any difference in power between a 650 and 645 even though the engine has 10% more horsepower and torque.

Yeah, my main comparison is a 550 non-sport with 800 miles on it which was definitely faster than my Sport Pkg car with 400 miles on it...
