How Much Did You Pay for Satellite Radio?

I'm looking to get the sirius satellite radio done in my car, but after searching the threads, it seems like people are getting different deals. I know 2006 e60s and up come pre-wired, but how much did you pay for your satellite radio itself? I hear around $450 or so currently, and some people say 2 hours labor, others say 3 hours. What does the official install instructions say?

And what kind of deal did you get for additional years? I heard that the first year is free, but I'm seeing that people are getting all kinds of deals for extra years when they initially activate it (i.e. extra yr for payment of 9 months, or $129 for extra 2 years, etc.)

When I had my 545i with Sirius (got it installed as a factory option) I called them to ask how much for a lifetime subscription and at the time, they were willing to deduct the cost of 1 year's subscription (which you get for free) from the lifetime fee of $500. So it was like $340 to get lifetime Sirius for the car. Keep in mind that the service follows and stays with the car so if you sell the car, the lifetime subscription goes with it to the new owner. Could be a good selling point or you could lose out. Anyway, this was back in March/April of 2005.

But, the point is, they are willing to deal so you just need to call and ask them.

I have lifetime service on a Starmate Plus radio and the lifetime part goes with the owner not the radio. In other words I can transfer my lifetime subscription to another sirius radio for free if the radio goes bad or for a small fee if I just decide that I want my lifetime on a new radio. If i sold my car with lifetime siruis I would simply transfer the subscription to my next car.

Let's be clear here about something. Is this the OEM BMW installed Sirius system or an aftermarket? Or, is this an OEM (some other car brand) Sirius system?

It was made pretty clear to me at the time of inquiry that for the BMW, a purchase of lifetime Sirius went with the car and not the person. Maybe I heard wrong, maybe things have changed, or maybe the circumstances need clarification.

I thought the service was transferrable..or else it wouldn't make sense to be stuck to one piece of equipment for life.

Nope. Sirius gives the subscription to the person. So you just delete the code for the BMW and add in the new code for the new car.

The sales person (at sirius) asked me if I wanted the lifetime and I said I didn't want to buy lifetime if another person would keep it when I sold the car or if the car got too old etc... they corrected my thinking.
