 Whats wrong with Idrive

I do not see why everyone (mags, etc) are complaining about how difficult the iDrive system is. I just bought my 550 Monday night. I read the manual that evening and have no problem at all with using it, nor the voice recognition. Its very user friendly

We have a situation in which most magazine writers are old and computer clueless. They do not like change. nor do they understand computer all that well.

Consequently, they are complaining about something they don't understand and really can't understand in a 5 minute test drive.

No doubt the earlier versions of iDrive had issues. However, it is pretty solid now although there is room for improvement as with any syste,.

If anyone complain about i-Drive, he/she cannot use Windows 98 & up, or iPod interface. Therefore, we can say he/she is computer semi-illiterate
All they know is punching the buttons.
i-Drive is the best car GUI I've ever seen. Much better than Toyota and Acura. Why? First Screen never be wiped out by sunlight. The more sunlights, the brighter it is. It's the other way around for other car's screen.

iDrive has a bad reputation. It was reviewed by people that didn't buy the car and don't have any interest in trying to use it or learn it. It is MUCH, MUCH better than the multitude of buttons and switches on the Audi, Infiniti and Acura and, yes, better than the touch screen on the Lexus. There is room for improvement but mainly in the menus, etc, not in the concept itself.

Both my wife and I had zero I drive experiece prior to the E90 test drive.

And I agree, if you can use I drive, you can't use a computer. The U.S. car mag writers are idiots anyway. I stopped reading those crap stuff years ago and now only will buy Car or Evo.

Sounds like a personal problem to me.

I-Drive was first introduced with the 7 series, as I'm sure you know. Don't want to offend anyone here, but I think the majority of people who purchased the 7 series with I-Drive when it first came out were of an age group that was/is technologically challanged. This age group typically has trouble checking their e-mail and/or programming their VCR if they even have e-mail or a VCR......... I have always blamed this as the reason for I-Drive getting the bad rap.
