To All,
I was ready to order my 550i w/ SMG. A local Los Angeles dealer told me they had LOTS of problems and they REFUSE to order me the car.
Does anyone else know of this problem? Should I stay away (don't debate if manual is better I only care about the SMG technology working properly).
Please let me know asap...I was going to order the car today.

Find another dealer...SMG has worked very well for most everyone on this board who has it and has posted about, yours truly included.
The line, "If you don't order my car the way I want it, I will find a dealer who will" should convince them otherwise. Simply walk out the door and don't look back.
OR, do a European Delivery on it. You'll save money, have a great trip in Europe, and the dealer won't care because he knows the car is sold.
I think the dealer is scared you will back out of the deal when the SMG arrives on this car you ordered.

that's retarded. Yeah, find another dealer. From what I've been reading hydrualic pump failure is not exactly uncommon but it's still absurd for the dealer to refuse to order one for you.

I have SMG on my 2004 530i. Love it. Never had a problem.
I'd tell the dealer to go F#@* themselves. How dare they tell you what you should order. I would have flipped out.

The dealer is thinking about the possibility of having to sell the person ordering it doesn't take delivery. Most dealers don't order spec cars with SMG since it's not a popular option.
