Sensation in steering wheel until engine warms

Noticed a weird coarse feeling when turning the steering wheel even if sitting still. If I turn the wheel left or right just a little or all the way it kind of vibrates or has a humming feeling to it.

I don't have active steering, and the feeling stops once the car is warm. Feels as if it is the power steering system.

I have a feeling my car was not prepped whatsoever by the dealer I bought it from. This tuesday it goes to Hendricks in Charlotte for Alignment, CIP updates, and possible nav screen as it keeps sticking on the BMW screen or blacking out.

Any thought greatly appreciated.

None except you will undoubtedly be quite sensitive to any little things happening in your steering feel from here on out! If you get a chance, try and drive another 550i.

It may be your power steering pump. . .maybe the fluid is low. . My old 323i had a similar problem.

Make sure you tell the dealer that you are not going to pick up the car until it is road tested by the service manager. Also, you may want to test drive it after repairs are made, as well.

Take a ride in the car with a tech...insist on it.
